Which Ammunition/Cartridge/Caliber For Hunting?

Always select a cartridge that is powerful enough to kill your chosen game animal, but also one you can shoot accurately.

TIP 1.

Hunting success has little to do with what calibre you use. It boils down to skill and experience.

Hunting with a gun you find comfortable to shoot and are familiar with is far better than using a super-duper magnum calibre that’s hard to handle. Remember, power is no substitute for accuracy.

Bullet selection and shot placement is absolutely critical. Matching bullet type and construction to the type of game you hunt is a must. But even the best bullet is useless if you don’t place your shot well.

A deer hit solidly through the lungs with a 150gn .270 Win or a 180gn .300 Win would never know the difference.

So, use a gun you like to shoot, select the right bullet to do the job, and place your shots well. You can’t go wrong with this formula.

TIP 2.

If you shoot less than 40 rounds per year hunting, you are better off buying factory ammunition rather than reloading.

The good news is that today there is a bewildering choice of factory ammunition available for just about any type of hunting. Factory ammunition is just as reliable and accurate as the most carefully assembled reload.

You can purchase factory ammo in popular calibres loaded with custom game bullets like Nosler Partition, Barnes, Swift, Woodleigh, A-Square and others.
