Rifle Cleaning Kits – Which Cleaning Kit Is Best?

TIP 1.

What rifle cleaning kits is best for my rifle? Pretty much any rifle cleaning kit on the market will do the job equally as well, but there are advantages in selecting particular kits over others.

The ideal cleaning kit for a hunting rifle is from Otis Technology, Inc. Why? Well, the entire kit (brushes, solvent, patches, jags, flexible rod, etc) all fit in a small, circular, zippered pouch, about the size of your hand. This means you can take it anywhere your hunting rifle travels, allowing you to field clean your rifle if necessary.

I use the Otis rifle cleaning kit for all my hunting rifles. Cleaning a hunting rifle with Otis products is super fast because the flexible rod is inserted at the breech and pulled out from the muzzle – in about 5 seconds!

If dirt or other foreign matter get inside your rifle’s barrel while out hunting, you’ll be glad that you packed an Otis rifle cleaning kit in your hunting daypack or backpack!

TIP 2.

Target and Varmint rifles, on the other hand, require a different cleaning kit, in my opinion. Because such rifles shoot hundreds of rounds in a matter of days, its essential to thoroughly clean the rifle’s bore.

To do this, a one-piece cleaning rod is needed for the job. Why? Because the strength of a one piece rod allows a tight-fitting patch/jag to be used from breech to muzzle. This means the bore will be thoroughly cleaned of powder residue and copper fouling, especially from typical varminting rounds like the 22/250 Remington, 220 Swift, etc.

Dewey Manufacturing make a range of cleaning rods and kits to suit all rifle calibers, shotguns and handguns. One piece cleaning rods are superior to 2 or 3 piece rods (ie, those rods you screw together to form one rod) when it comes to strength and straightness.

TIP 3.

Always clean a rifle barrel from the breech rather than from the muzzle. Cleaning any firearm from the muzzle can cause damage to the crown of the barrel. Even slight imperfections in the crown area will effect accuracy of the bullet at the target.

Take care the next time you clean your gun!
