Hunting Clothes, Clothing – Tips, Info, Hints

Selecting the right hunting clothing can be time consuming. Hunting clothes come in so many different fabrics, styles, camo patterns.

So what hunting clothing is best for your type of hunting? Here are some tips to help you decide on your next set of hunting clothing.

Scent control/Silent Hunting Clothing

Hunting clothing lined with a special scent blocking material (usually carbon) is best suited for hunters who must stalk and get up close to game – like bowhunters. If this is what you do, then such hunting clothing should be top priority.

It makes sense to wear hunting clothing that not only contains your scent, but is silent while you stalk. Clothing that squeaks, rubs or makes too much noise will alert game animals to your whereabouts as you get within close range.

Insulation in Hunting Clothing

Keeping warm in cold weather hunting requires clothing that provides adequate insulation. If you’re cold and shivering, forget it, the hunt is over – pack up and leave because you won’t enjoy the hunt.

Fleece lined hunting clothing is not only lightweight, but traps bodyheat very effectively, keeping you warm. I find wearing your hunting clothing in layers (ie, thermals, fleece pullover, windproof/waterproof jacket) is the best approach. Why? Because you can adjust the level of insulation needed.

Windproof/Waterproof Hunting Clothing

Every hunter should carry windproof/waterproof hunting clothes that folds up compactly and fits in their daypack/fanny pack – you just never know when the weather will turn bad. Such clothing is available from Cabelas and BassPro in numerous camo patterns.

Also, look for windproof/waterproof clothing that not only fully protects you from the elements, but is quiet to stalk in. Cabelas MTO50 material comes to mind here.

Camo Patterns In Hunting Clothing

Every hunter has an opinion on what camo works best for them. I believe camo is the least important. Why? Because if the other factors as discussed above are not taken into account first, then you will not enjoy the hunt. This means you will not be able to focus on the hunting if your clothing is uncomfortable, does not insulate, keep the wind out, etc.

Once you decide which hunting clothing to use, then decide on the camo pattern.
