How To Bore Sight Your Gun/Rifle/Handgun

TIP 1.

For initial bore sighting of your hunting gun, start at 50 yards. That way you’ll be somewhere on target at 100 yards.

Bore sighting is a good idea at 50 yards because its easy to peer down the gun barrel (from chamber end) and align the gun barrel so its pointing directly at the center of the target.

Don’t sight-in at 50 yards then go hunting, confident point of impact will be dead-on at 100 yards. Always check at the range.

Any error at 50 yards is magnified 2 times at 100 and 4 times at 200 yards.

For example, an error of 1" at 50 yards amounts to 4" at 200 yards – enough to miss the vital spot of medium sized game. Think about this the next time you bore sight/sighting-in at the range.

TIP 2.

To check the accuracy of your gun and different ammo, we must start with a solid benchrest.

On this you will need a front rest or leather sand bag to hold the front of the gun, or forearm. And a rear rest with rabbit ears to hold the buttstock firmly in place.

Setup the bench, bags and gun so that the bench and bags do all the work – in other words to hold the rifle perfectly still, on target.
